It doesn’t matter how often you clean your home – unseen pollutants could be lurking anywhere. If you find yourself coughing, sneezing, wheezing, or dealing with stomach pain or headaches, it may not be the latest virus working its way through your community. Your symptoms may be linked to your air conditioner. But how could this be so? What can you do to rectify the situation?
What Could Be Making You Sick
When it comes to sickness connected to your air conditioner, there are two culprits to consider: mold and extreme coldness. When the inside of your house gets very cold, the air becomes dry. This leads to dryness in your nose and mouth. You may even get a runny nose because your body is trying to make up for the lack of moisture. If coldness isn’t the issue, mold could be. Mold thrives in certain environments and could be inside your vents and air ducts. When the air conditioner turns on, it circulates the mold. From bed sheets to exposed food, mold spores may get all over your possessions. You don’t want this to happen.
How to Prevent Problems
How do you fight back against getting ill? The first thing you can do is crack a window open and allow fresh air to get into the house. This isn’t the same as turning on a fan. A fan may only make a mold situation worse by helping the spores circulate at a faster rate. Air conditioner filters are supposed to keep mold and bacteria from spreading in your ducts. However, if you never clean the filters, they become hosts. The best thing you can do is clean them as soon as possible. If you don’t think you can do it, contact someone you trust for the task.
If you or any member of your family starts to feel ill, the flu or whatever you had for lunch may not be the culprit. The problem may be lurking in your own home, hiding in your air conditioning system. If you want to live healthily, you have to breathe nothing but clean air. Don’t procrastinate – take action today.
